There are many ways to make money on YouTube, but not everyone knows what it takes to monetize successfully. After reading this short blog post, you will have the knowledge needed to start earning money by monetizing your YouTube channel.
Have at least 1,000 subscribers
YouTube does not allow monetization until you have at least 1,000 subscribers. It's not difficult to meet this requirement as it only takes an average of 2-3 months. However, some channels need more time to grow their viewership and should make sure they have enough content before applying for monetization. Keep in mind that YouTube also requires that your channel has 4,000 hours of public watch time over 12 months in order to be eligible for consideration. This could take about two years depending on how many videos you're publishing each month and how often your audience is tuning in.
Reach 4,000 valid public watch hours in the past 12 months
YouTube makes it fairly easy for you to check your video watch hours. Once you’ve uploaded your video, go into Creator Studio > Video Manager > Watch Time. Your public watch time is measured in minutes watched and must be accrued over a period of 12 months.
Have an AdSense account
Google AdSense is an ad serving technology that allows you to earn money from your YouTube videos. All you need is an AdSense account and meet Google's eligibility requirements which includes reaching 4,000 valid public watch hours in the past 12 months. If you’ve reached all of these qualifications, then read through Google’s terms and conditions before signing up for AdSense. Once signed up, it will take Google anywhere from 24-48 hours to review your account and approve it. Upon approval, you'll be able to start monetizing with ads by inserting into your video page code provided by Google.
